I can still remember the first time I heard someone talk about "tweeting." I was on an LDS mission and didn't know what Twitter was until I returned home many months later. I thought that Twitter was only used for updating your followers on every little detail of your day. Recently, I have been exposed to many people that are using Twitter. Some use Twitter for marketing purposes. Others use Twitter for communicating to large groups. Twitter also makes those in high positions seem not so far away, such as Apple's CEO Tim Cook. Although I don't personally feel drawn towards Twitter, I now understand why people use it.
I hear ya! I remember exactly when I first heard about Twitter while I was on my mission. I have a Twitter account, but I hardly use it. My wife says she really likes it for the news because she can get a lot of information in a short amount of time.
ReplyDeleteTwitter is a ridiculous idea, but Twitter *culture* is wonderful. If Twitter was just the status updates part of Facebook (like I first thought), it would be really dumb. I only follow very interesting people, and my Twitter feed is fully of interesting news and wit. Don't follow your friends or family on Twitter, and you'll learn to love it.
ReplyDeleteAs a software engineer, I love twitter. It gives the opportunity to find and follow people who are very knowledgeable and share great content that has helped me learn tons. More than that though, the constraint of 140 characters truly does produce some insightful, witty, and great content. I would encourage anyone, especially tech people, to find a circle of high profile software engineers and give it a try.
